A gammon is a bigger win that happens when you bear off all your checkers before your opponent has borne off even one. A normal win counts as a single, but a gammon counts double, so it is worth twice as much in scoring or chips. To win a gammon you must finish while the loser still has all 15 checkers on the board. This makes it worth pressing your advantage when you are clearly ahead, trying to keep the opponent from getting any checkers off. The even bigger result, where the loser also still has a checker in your home board or on the bar, is called a backgammon.
