Each player moves their checkers in only one direction, from their starting points toward their own home board, and the two players move in opposite directions. Because you move one way and your opponent moves the other, your checkers pass and collide as both races progress. You never move a checker backward. The numbers on the dice always send your checkers toward the point where they will eventually bear off. Knowing your own direction of travel is essential, since new players sometimes get confused when the two colours move opposite ways on the same board. On Game Finale the legal moves are highlighted, so direction is easy to see.
