Each player has 15 checkers in backgammon, and the two sides use different colours so they are easy to tell apart. Your aim is to move all 15 into your home board and then bear them off the board entirely. The two players move in opposite directions, so the checkers constantly race past and sometimes block each other. Because there are exactly 15 per side, keeping them working together in safe pairs and blocks matters far more than pushing any single checker too far ahead. The first player to bear off all fifteen checkers wins the game.
