The main terms in Turkish Draughts describe the pieces and the special rules of movement and capture.

  • Man: an ordinary piece that moves one square forward or sideways.
  • Dama, or king: a promoted piece that moves and captures any distance in straight lines.
  • Capture: jumping straight over an adjacent enemy piece to the empty square beyond.
  • Multi-jump: capturing several pieces in one turn with consecutive jumps.
  • Forced capture: the rule that you must capture, and must take the maximum.
  • Promotion: a man reaching the far row and becoming a dama.

Learning these terms makes the rules and strategy much easier to follow.
