You checkmate with two rooks by using them like a ladder to push the enemy king to the edge of the board. One rook cuts off a rank or file so the king cannot cross it, while the other rook checks the king, driving it back one row at a time. Each time the king moves toward your rooks, you slide the checking rook to the far side to stay safe, then continue pushing. When the king is trapped on the last rank, one rook delivers check while the other blocks its escape — that is checkmate. Keep the rooks apart so the king cannot attack them.
