You win a trick in Batak by playing the highest trump in it, or if no trump was played, the highest card of the suit that was led. The first card played sets the led suit, and everyone must follow that suit if they can. A trump card beats any plain-suit card, so if someone is void in the led suit and plays a trump, they take the trick unless a higher trump is played over it. When no trumps appear, the trick simply goes to the highest card of the led suit. The winner of each trick then leads the next one.
