The okey is determined by the indicator: it is the tile one number higher than the indicator, in the same colour.

Once the deal is complete, a single tile is flipped face-up as the indicator. If that tile is a black 8, the okey for the hand is the black 9. When the indicator is a 13, the okey rolls over to the 1 of the same colour. Because every tile has a duplicate, two okey jokers exist in each hand, and both are highly prized for completing groups.
